1/23: Alas, Poor Yorick!

Look at your essays — what are your major mistakes?  Hold on to these essays — you are not finished with them yet!

Read the last two scenes of Act 4 — what has happened to Hamlet?  How long has he been gone?  What “deal” does Claudius make with Laertes?  How exactly does Ophelia die (how would Gertrude know such details)?

Share insights regarding Hamlet, Laertes, Fortinbras: Why might this question of inheritance have been important in Shakespeare’s time?

In the afterlife, Gertrude, Lady Macbeth, and Ophelia are the featured guests on Oprah.  They take questions from Oprah, the audience and from each other.  What do they have to say about love, marriage, childbearing, and the role of women? Include at least two direct quotes per person from each play.
